DECORAH, Iowa – The host of a Winneshiek County campground has been formally charged with violating the privacy of at least 31 women after a hidden camera was found above the women’s shower.
Leslie J. Peterson, 69, will be arraigned on the charges, all serious misdemeanors, Aug. 3rd.

Dispatchers received several 911 calls just after 9:15 p.m. July 3 after the hidden camera was found above the women’s shower located in the public bathroom of the Kendallville Campground, court records show. Peterson took the camera out of the bathroom before investigators arrived, but another guest took it from him, court records show.
Peterson admitted to using the camera to watch women shower and showed deputies a television and the wireless receiver which showed the images from the camera, court records state.
The 31 charges against Peterson involve women who’d showered in the bathroom between June 30 and July 4, though Peterson told investigators he’d been watching women shower since 2007.
The investigation is continuing.
Anyone who showered in the woman’s restroom at the campground since 2007 is asked to call the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department at (563) 382-4268. Potential victims can e-mail a typed statement including name, age, address, telephone number and specific dates, number of times showered and any possible dates and times if remembered to email@example.com. Campground guests are also asked to include information (date, time, campsite location if possible) regarding the collection of campground fees, especially if no campground receipt was provided by the campground host.
